Boo-Wow Walk photos

Click on Harry the Wonderful's picture to go to a Flickr set of Boo-Wow Walk photos. And yes, I'm a crummy photographer and yes, most of the pictures were taken from a moving golf cart. Sorry about that. I will try to add some pictures my husband took. They will be better.

In the spirit of the Boo-Wow Walk

If anyone happens to still have the urge to dress up doggies in silly costumes, have I got an opportunity for you! :) I'd *love* to find some volunteers to go dress up shelter dogs and take pictures of them for me to post on Petfinder. These kind of fun listings really attract attention and help our dogs find great homes.

If anyone is interested, please contact me at dawn.shimp@gmail.com (at gmail dot com) for info, or go ahead & take some pictures & just send them to me to post. Please note I can only put three pictures per listing, so if I get a bunch of pics of a particular dog I will have to rotate them.

Hope to see some great pictures soon....the goofier the better but heck even a bandana or a silly hat will work! :)

Thanks!

Boo-Wow Walk update, and your help needed!

The Boo-Wow Walk was a great success! Thanks everyone for your support. It was lovely to see some familar faces and meet some new folks. The weather and the turnout both exceeded our expectations. I'll be posting photos here on the blog later today or tomorrow.

There is a nice article about the event in the Star Beacon as well.

This related article was in the Beacon. As you can see, despite the success of the Boo-Wow Walk, the shelter badly needs more financial support. We do get some money from the County Commissioners, but it is neglible compared to the service we provide.

Please contact the Commissioners to let them know how valuable the Animal Protective League is to this county. For those who don't know, we're not *just* a low-kill shelter, we also must function as the pound for the county, and take in all animals brought to us by the city and county dog wardens. If the shelter closes, there is literally no where else for these dogs and cats to go.

It's especially important that the Commissioners hear from Ashtabula County residents, but rescues from out of the area are also welcome to express their opinion of the value and importance of the shelter to the animals of Ashtabula County.

Here is the contact info for the Commissioners. Please be polite :)

Boo-Wow Walk update

As of last night, we had close to 400 people registered for the Boo-Wow Walk! I've been asked to mention that we will only have enough treats for approx. 450 doggies, but everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the walk, enter the costume contest, get pictures taken, and partake of the festivities! Hope to see you there :)

Don't forget the Boo-Wow Walk!

Many of you saw the Star Beacon article explaining the desperate situation at the Ashtabula County APL. If not, it's online here.

Our shelter is the *only* animal shelter in Ashtabula County, the largest county in Ohio. We need your help now more than ever to remain open and keep helping animals.

The good news is that our largest annual fundraiser, the Boo-Wow Walk, is this Saturday. Always a fun time, the Boo-Wow Walk is a dog walk with trick-or-treat stops along the trail, followed by a Halloween party for the dogs and their human companions! Registration forms and pledge sheets can be found here. It's a great opportunity to help the animals while having a fun time with your dog! We have over 300 registered participants already, but there's always room for more!

I hope to see many of you there, and please pass this info along to anyone you know who might be interested.

thanks!

Hang Me!

I've created this .pdf flyer to bring attention to our $25 doggy special and our desperate need to get our numbers down. If you're local and have been looking for a way to help but just don't have much time, why not print out a dozen or so and hang them where you work, shop, etc.? Thanks!!!
