I got a call this afternoon from the Health Care Director at the APL. The dog warden had just brought in a St. Bernard mix mom & her four puppies....they'd been abandoned in a public bathroom at a Pymatuming State Park! The babies are only about 4 weeks old, and the shelter wants mom & babies out right away to keep them healthy.

The shelter is overcrowded once again, and URI is always more common during overcrowded times. Young babies like this don't belong in a shelter, especially during parvo season (the shelter did have parvo a few weeks ago....no new cases in almost two weeks.....these babies haven't even touched the ground at the shelter but with new dogs in every day we don't want them to).
We'd like to see mom and pups get into a good rescue *immediately*....for now they're being kept in the intake area, and we'd like them to go right from there into a warm and safe house.
Mom is a very sweet young St. Bernard mix. She weighs about 40lbs but is underweight...should probably be more like 55 or 60lbs. The pups are chunky little things....big for their age.....they'll be good sized dogs. Three are yellow, 1 is black. Three are girls, one is a boy. All are adorable.

Mom has been hw tested and is negative, and has been given Frontline. Mom and pups have all been given their first round of vaccines. The shelter would like to be reimbursed $25 per dog for the cost of vaccines.
If no rescue steps up for these guys, we'd also be looking for someone to foster them for the APL.
If you are able to help Patsy & her babies, please contact Dawn as soon as possible at ashtabulaanimaladvocates@gmail.com Someone can meet you outside of shelter hours if needed.
thanks,
Dawn
p.s. this is the basket they were found in :(
