Rugger!

Handsome Rugger is 130lbs of heartworm positive St. Bernard. That costs a lot to treat! Everyone loves him but no one out here in this depressed rural county can afford his vet bills. We'd love to see him go to rescue, and are trying to raise enough funds to get him heartworm treated to make him a more attractive candidate for rescue.

I'm not sure of the exact cost of his treatment....it can be done at the shelter for considerably less than it would cost at a vet's office, but it will still be in the $150 to $180 range. All donations to his care are so appreciated!

We'd love to find a great St. Bernard rescue to take Rugger. He is an older fellow...I think 6 or 7? He did great on his SAFER, except that when really really pushed he did bite the hand during the food aggression test. He's not shown any food aggression in "real world" situations and is in fact known for his gentleness. As you can see in the photo he came in looking a horrid mess, just matted from top to tail. Some volunteers groomed him....it took a whole afternoon!....and he just sat there patiently the whole time. He's an awesome dog.

Rugger isn't showing up on Petfinder for some reason...
