Josie and Jenny -- Scared, abused labs need rescue

Josie and Jenny came from a horrible situation....they and some other dogs were kept in those horrid little raised outdoor cages that hunters use for beagles. The cages were full of feces. The dogs came in absolutely coated. All of the dogs who Josie and Jenny came in with had to be euthanized. They were so terrified at the shelter that they were actually harming themselves and each other. Josie and Jenny were the most sociable of the two, but they are both still extremely frightened.

Josie has come around more than Jenny. She will actually come up to the front of the cage wagging, but is still very shy when handled. Her primary caretaker can walk her though, and she is learning to play....she's really improving.

Jenny is not doing as well. She's losing a lot of weight at the shelter. She is kenneled with another dog who is quite shy...they will play when people aren't watching, but as soon as someone approaches the front of the cage & the dogs see them, they stop playing.

The shelter is *so* overcrowded right now.....over 100 dogs in a shelter that is supposed to hold 48....that Josie and Jenny stand no hope of being rehabilitated there. Ashtabula Animal Advoctates have been doing pretty good at getting dogs out of the shelter, but dogs come in as quickly as we can get them out, and it's only a matter of time before they decide to euthanize for space. Josie and Jenny will be two of the first to go when that happens.

Please contact Dawn at ashtabulaanimaladvocates@gmail.com (gmail.com) if you can help. The girls do not have to go together.....they are not currently kenneled together as they seemed to feed each other's fear.

Both girls are young and very pretty. They are labs or lab mixes. Josie is the one with the white patch on her chest. Their Petfinder listings are at:
