We're now facing a dog crisis at the Ashtabula APL in NE Ohio. They are currently housing 120+ dogs (plus cats!) in a shelter that was only built to house 48 dogs. With no air conditioning. Euth for space is supposed to start at 80 dogs, so 40+ dogs are in danger if we don't move some soon. We need rescue help desperately.
This is a shelter that aspires to be no-kill, and truly does have the best interests of the animals at heart. But it is the only animal shelter in the largest county in Ohio, in a very poor, rural area. They have to take in every animal the city and county dog wardens bring them...this can be hundreds of dogs in a month. When numbers get up, as they are now, they have to euthanize if we can't get the animals out.
July was a horrible month for the APL dogs. For some reason, more and more dogs just kept pouring in....double digits many days. And with the cat crisis, dogs weren't able to be spayed and neutered. So now there is a huge backlog of dogs waiting to be altered so that they can be adopted.
Because the current situation is so desperate, they are also allowing me to send unaltered dogs to approved rescues for only $25 for adult dogs, $50 for puppies.
The APL is *very* rescue friendly. We're pleased to be able to send fully vetted dogs to rescue for only $75. That's spayed/neutered, UTD on shots including rabies, heartworm tested, and current on flea and heartworm preventative. In addition, there is the following special pricing on special dogs:
