I've been keeping you all posted on the desperate situation at the Ashtabula APL, and I'm glad to say we've been able to move a lot of dogs to safety (though they always need more help, of course!). However, the cat situation is continuing to worsen, and cats will be euthanized if we can't move a bunch of them. Because of the desperateness of the situation, fully vetted cats can go for free to approved rescues.
This is a shelter that aspires to be no-kill, and truly does have the best interests of the animals at heart. But it is the only animal shelter in the largest county in Ohio, in a very poor, rural area. They have to take in every animal the city and county dog wardens bring them...this can be hundreds of dogs in a month. And people dump cats and kittens there almost every day. When numbers get up, as they are now, they have to euthanize if we can't get the animals out. Currently the cats numbers are more than double what they should be.
The APL is *very* rescue friendly. They just want to move cats so that they don't have to euthanize them! They are also looking for foster homes for cats and kittens, especially homes that can foster litters of kittens until they are spayed/neutered. It really helps them to stay healthy to keep them out of the shelter.
Please look at the available cats and kittens below. If you see anyone you are interested in, contact Jeremiah Sabol at jsabol@wtfwebdesign.com (wtfwebdesign.com) Cats will die if we can't get some out right away.
(And hey, they still have dogs too! Like 100+ of them!)
